Problems

Diagnosing Common Problems

Most hydroponic problems come from the solution, the light, or the oxygen supply. Check those first.

Root Rot

Roots that are brown, slimy and smell bad often mean too little oxygen, warm water or both. Improve aeration and keep the solution cool and covered.

Algae

Green slime on surfaces and in the solution means light is reaching the water. Block light to the reservoir and channels.

Yellow or Pale Leaves

Check the pH first. A pH out of range can lock out nutrients even when they are present. If the pH is in range, check the nutrient mix.

Brown Leaf Tips

Brown leaf tips often mean the solution is too strong. Dilute the solution and check EC.

Pests

Check plants regularly for insects, especially at the leaf undersides. Remove affected leaves and follow the product label for any treatment.
